Roxy Music - "Manifesto"

I just found a copy of Roxy Music's album, "Manifesto" on eBay. It was in pretty good condition, and only cost me 3 bucks. "Manifesto" was the album they made after they took a sabbatical from recording. It's a good album, and kind of hard to find on 8-track. It plays great.
I'm also waiting for another box of broken tapes to come from my friend in Kentucky. I love getting them. They keep me busy, and when I can repair one in really bad shape, I get a good sense of accomplishment. I can't wait to get them.

All done! :)

I just finished all the repair work I had to do on that new box of 8-track tapes I received. A couple of them still need replacement front labels, but they play just fine. The ones I didn't want, or were too far gone to repair, I cannibalized for spare parts. My friends in Kentucky told me that they will have another box soon. I can't wait!

Just got a box-o-tapes in the mail!

I just received a box of tapes in the mail from a friend in Kentucky. He deals on eBay, and once in awhile he sends me tapes he can't fix, and sometimes he tosses me a bone...like a Beatles tape!
I got 22 tapes in this box. The best ones of the bunch? Ringo Starr "Ringo", Rolling Stones "Let It Bleed", Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" and Cheech & Chong "Cheech & Chong".
Lots of repair work to be done, but I enjoy it. I'll let you know how everything turns out.

Lear-Jet gooey rollers

I just learned a valuable tip. You all know how we HATE the Lear-Jet rollers, that turn to goo...Well, here's a great idea. Replace them with the plastic rollers you get from old RCA carts. They are the perfect size and fit great. I had two of the Lear-Jets that I just tried it on, and they play perfectly. No problems.

Waiting for a parcel in the mail...

I'm waiting for a package to come from a friend in Kentucky. He sells 8-tracks on eBay, and he sends me damaged and broken 8-tracks that he can't fix. I work on them, and if I can fix them I have some new 8-tracks! I just pay him for the postage.
Some are really beyond hope, but some are simple fixes for me. He sent them last weekend, so I expect them any day now.
Fixing them gives me something to do and keeps me busy. I really enjoy fixing them.

Can 8-tracks be far behind...?

I just read an article earlier today that stated vinyl record sales rose every year for the past five years.
Can 8-tracks be far behind?

Just a few random thoughts...

No tape today, just a few random thoughts about me missing the 8-track tape cartridge format. A whole bunch-o-people out there collect them today, and it's mostly done out of fun and enjoyment. At least that's the way it is with me. It's partly nostalgia, but I think it's still a viable format to this day.
People out there tend to want things INSTANTLY. That would explain the rise in downloadable music from places like iTunes. They also want perfect sound. The 8-track never had perfect sound, but it was fun to listen to and it kept playing on and on if you wanted it to. It had no fast forward, so you had to listen through until you found your favorite song. But hey, we didn't and don't care. We even have fun repairing them. New pads, new rollers, new carts...again I repeat, it was a fun format.
There are some collectables out there in 8-track land too. I hate mentioning the word collectable, or money when it comes to things we collect and enjoy, because it tends to bring in the people that ruin the fun, by driving up the prices, and taking all the fun out of it because we now can't afford to get some of the carts we want.
So, go and buy some carts. Some good, and some bad. Some country, and some strange ones. Some fantastic, and some just plain funny. Enjoy yourself.
